Supporting the homeless in Brighton: The Restaurants' Perspective

August 28, 2015

In its 2014/2015 annual report of the Director of Public Health, the city council admits that “Brighton is facing housing pressures and the number of people approaching the council for homelessness related help is 17 percent higher this year than 2010.”

Some of the many restaurants in Brighton are working to help in raising funds for Brighton’s homeless population.

In a partnership with StreetSmart, these restaurants add £1 to their customers’ bills in the months running up to the Christmas holidays which is also the winter season.

StreetSmart is a fundraising charity that gives to charities, facilities and hostels in 22 cities across the UK, including Brighton.

One of the participating restaurants in the city is MEATLiquor. It is located on London road, one of those parts of Brighton where homeless people can be easily found lying on pavements.

In this interview, General Manager, Anthony Turner tells Brighton FoodStyle about why they are committed to helping the homeless.
